Sherry got us up and out really early this morning for our one week road trip to Portsmouth Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I am really looking forward to this trip. We will get to see old friends, go out to dinner, and with a little luck, make a few dollars. As I said, Sherry had us all up early to head south, but not before I had the opportunity to get out and get some early morning shots. The Doe showed up with her baby, still in spots. I loaded the feeder with cracked corn in hopes they come back by during the week while we are gone. I do love to watch the deer!

The Hummers are all over the feeders this morning. There looks to be two pair, sparing for an opening on one of the two feeders. Regardless which one is selected, whoever is feeding at one will inevitably race over to the other to chase away the competition. Fun to watch, and a nice pic with the sunrise in the background.

The heron is staking out it's little piece of shoreline this morning, but not before being frightened off by my photo shot.

I got the Osprey in a dive shot this morning, but it really did not turn out all that well. Just like the shot of the doe and fawn, not very clear, but I put it up just the same. It is a least a shot, so here it is.

We left the Abell house at 8AM and arrived in Portsmouth at 12:30PM after a quick stop for vitals at the Wal-Mart in Yorktown, and gas in Tappahannok ($2.32/gal. the least expensive I have seen since April 09'!). Luckily, we got our camping spot on the Elizabeth River one block from the art show, and next to the Police Station. We have the back of the RV down and the screens down to keep of the bugs. We are just watching the boat traffic go by, watching the work on the Navy ships in dry dock, and generally enjoying a bit of down time. I enjoy watching the derricks swinging their loads back and forth. It is nice to see industry at work. There is much Homeland Security in evidence here, with police boats back and forth along the hulls of the great ships. Interesting, indeed.

Sweet Sherry is napping on the sofa while I tap away on the computer. How truely blessed life is to me. We work very hard at what we do, but all of the hard work is really worth it, when you consider the friends we have, the places we go, and the things we see. And of course (and most importantly) the time we have together to do these things we do. Yes, life is blessed.

Capt.Bill seems to be on the mend, which is a great relief to Sherry and me,(as well as many others). He is getting out and about. Ms. Emmy took him along shopping yesterday. Last night he slept the night away, without his vest going off. However, he did talk Ms.Emmy into stopping at Micky D's yesterday, so he could have an ice cream. Hmmmmm. We shall see what develops!
