The Dawn came late this morning, as we are under some pretty thick cover here on the river. We will have a shower or two around this morning, and then partly cloudy skies during the afternoon, as Earl makes his way up the coast. Our High is predicted to be in the upper 80'sF and our low is down in the mid to lower 60's. Winds are to be North/North west at 5 to 10 mph. The relative humidity is 88% and the Barometric pressure is steady at 29.84, which means Earl is quite some distance off, and having little effect here. Our chance of rain is a meager 30%. There is no sign of coastal flooding, so it looks as if we have dodged a bullet. The Sun was up at 6:37AM AM and will set this evening at 7:33PM.

Last evening we visited Capt.Bill for his 83rd. Birthday celebration. It was a wonderful, family filled evening with the William Sonntag Jr. clan, Jess & The Kids, Sherry and myself. Ms. Emmy prepared a large BBQ roast with all the fixing, Sherry brought Murphy's chicken, and Jess brought along a (low salt) pork BBQ with low sodium BBQ sauce she made herself. The meal was terrific, and Capt.Bill seemed to very much enjoy the feast. Jess broke out the low sodium desserts (three tubs of Eddy's ice cream and an Ice Cream cake). Killian had seconds of everything (dessert wise!).

After dinner we all retired to the living room to give The Good Capt. his gifts. Jess loaded him up with bird feeders, bird feed, and metal trash cans in which to store the seed. This way, he has his feed right at the feeders, and does not have to tote them any distance. The Billy Sonntag's loaded Capt. Bill up with lounge ware in the form of Redskin PJ's and kick around shirts & pants. Sherry and I gave him a new house phone, and Capt. Bill showed off his leather slippers from LL Bean that were a gift from Judy. He seemed well pleased with all of his gifts, and said he would have to build a bigger house to put them all in. Jess in particular, goes a little crazy when it comes to gift giving. She really got that "it is better to give than to receive" lesson! She is a very giving and thoughtful person, and we are all proud of the woman she has become!

After we finished with Capt.Bill, Jess and the Kids came loaded in with gifts for Ms. Emmy, as Jess did not deliver her birthday present back in July. Ms. Emmy got all kinds of bed coverings that I can not begin to describe, and do not know what purpose the objects fill. Apparently, girls like this stuff, as Ms. Emmy seemed awfully pleased with them. There were cotton sheets, many pillows, coverlets, and something called a "sham". All in all, a great time was had, with much laughter and happy faces all around. The kids were all well behaved. Josh Sonntag caught us up on his studies while Madison showed us all her busy middle school schedule. Killian just ate and Vanna looked the perfect young lady in her dress. She is looking more and more like her mother everyday. I told Sherry, Vanna is one of the prettiest girls I think I have ever seen! She grows up, and I grow old. So it is in life.

Maddie and her hand made card for PapaVanny sitting pretty, and watching Papa rip through is gift opening ceremony.
...Just a little overwhelmed by the number of gifts placed at his feet...

../but very happy, and please to have his family close.
